Our Father In Heaven… Part 1

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Matthew6:9-13

Yahshua demystified the way to pray and taught how to pray. The prayer which He taught was a way of confessing the belief, giving a perspective to look at the past, present, and future, giving the rightful place to everything and, acknowledge the power and authorities of God. When we pray to “Give us this our daily bread”, it has certain inbuilt presuppositions into it, whereas He taught us to ask for our daily bread from the Father. The giver of our daily bread is God and no human being can snatch it away from us. He also taught us that man shall not live by bread alone. This gives the right perspective to the earning of our daily bread.

And He said unto them, when ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven

Matthew 6:9

This was the period where uttering the name of YWHW had to be done with a great reverence and with utmost care. So much so that the scribes before writing the name of YWHW they would go through a series of cleansing rituals. These rituals came through Moshe, the Law. Yahshua, the Grace, built a relationship of father son, thereby making all of us His children. Law created a distance and Grace brought it closer by filling the gap.

We see in the 10 commandments given through Moshe that God in a way was describing or introducing Himself. The first commandment “I am the Lord thy God! Thou shalt have no other Gods but me!”. This establishes the place where God should be, and there is no other God besides Him. The second commandment, “Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain”, makes it very clear not to utter His name out of context.

Here Yahshua is introducing God as “Our Father”. Our Father, is about the upward relationship we have with Him as our Father and lateral relationship where all those included in the word “Our” are a part of a big family. This big family is most commonly referred to as His “Church”.

Now, having a heavenly Father, we have the assurance of been led and guided. Dawid puts it very nicely, He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. So, for His name’s sake and because of the relationship, He will lead us in the path of righteousness and therefore we need to forsake the self-righteous way.
